2007-06-13 : Where would we ever be without the internet!?
Oooooh yeah, feast your sensory organs on this little nugget! Ordinarily I wouldn't write a whole blog entry about a random link, however this is too good not to draw to your proper attention.
How HAS the world gotten this far without virtual karaoke?! Luckily this gap in the market has now been firmly plugged by the astonishing miracle that is SingShot.
Yes, all you need is a microphone and a reasonable internet connection (and obviously a computer, and a fairly sparsely populated social calendar), and you too can lay down a karaoke bomb or two in th comfort of your own home. No more need to go to smoky karaoke bars and stand up in front of strangers (most of whom are just eyeing you up to spot the opportune moment for them to surge forth and grab the microphone so they can have another turn) – just feast your ears on such masterpieces as GrittyGirl's near-jazz interpretation of Coldplay's “Yellow”, ulaylah's rendition of Great Balls of Fire (possibly suffering some form of net connection latency in order to leave her singing about 1/3 of a beat behind the song), lenileni's moving & soulful “Eternal Flame” (I know she sings “internal flame” a couple of times, but English isn't EVERYONE'S first language), and chemical_orange's treatment of Funkytown is bordering on performance art.
You can find over 1700 recordings of Over The Rainbow, just waiting for yours to be slipped in next to them. Or maybe a bit of hip-hop's more your thing? There's some stirring renditions of “Insane in the Brain” chalked up.
I'm lost for words. Do yourself a favour, and get in amongst it. I'll post a link as soon as I've signed up for my free account and serenaded the world. Oh yeah, you can record your own video if you have a webcam – like walkingstick's haunting “Golden Slumbers”!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh yeah. Joy to the World.
