Note to self: don't bother opening a bottle of sparkling red to share with housemate until said housemate has actually arrived home. It ends badly.

Sadly, I didn't get to writing about my Stockholm or Falconry trips like I'd intended to, but on the upside, I did manage to cook up a load of Tom Yum soup, and it didn't even turn out too badly (if I do say so myself). Interesting moment of the day was the conversation I had with the dude at the Thai Supermarket around the corner trying to ascertain the availibility of a particular type of mushroom, which helpfully I couldn't remember the name of (turned out to be Oyster mushrooms). I mean that's award winning, isn't it ? Someone who is trying to describe a thing they've seen once to a person who barely speaks the same language as them. I got some kind of mushroom in the end, and it wasn't too bad at all.

As for sparkling reds, a couple of folks in the know will probably find it amusing to note that the most luxuriant thing I could get my hands on was a bottle of Banrock Station Sparkling Shiraz. I could've killed for a Fox Creek “Vixen” tonight ! Even an Andrew Garrett… alas, Banrock was the best available. For the bargain basement price of 8 pounds (so, just under 20 bucks). But I didn't move here for the wine, or the weather.

Started new job today – exciting stuff ! I'm taing my camera in tomorrow so I can grab a few shots out of the office window… this really is cool, as far as I'm concerned.

2005-07-19 : Well that was productive…
