It’s tough with these franchises-of-my-childhood getting latter-day instalments, because the key players are all past it and the wellspring of ideas it all stemmed from was long since exhausted. So, the best thing you can say about this was that it wasn’t as bad as the last Indiana Jones film. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character carries most of the plotline, although she also changes personality about 5 times throughout so you can see the joins where the different writers were brought in to finish it. I know I’ve got a tendency for falling asleep during films late at night, but I rewatched the ending of this and I’m still none the wiser about how they got home again – but the whole “leave me here” didn’t seem true to the character for me, even in spite of the life events seemingly justifying it. Call me a grumpy old guy being miserable about films for kids, but this didn’t work for me at all.
